Peter McEwen and mates had a good day out with Time Out Fishing at Port Fairy, doing some inshore bottom fishing – a great alternative while the tuna are still out wide.
The sensational run of albacore and tuna right across south-west Vic and South Australia continued today, pictured here is the happy crew from Matt Hunt Fishing Services with their catch off Portland. Basically all of the trolling has been ‘blind’, with very little bird and surface action. Crews are reporting success on all different types and sizes of lures, with individual ones having standout sessions. The horseshoe area and to the west has been consistently productive, but the fish are spread very far and wide, from Warrnambool to Port MacDonnell. There have also been reports of the odd much larger fish lost, and seen busting the surface.
Port MacDonnell Fishing Charters had a great day yesterday on their boat Jaymar Star, with 25 tuna/albacore, Tassie trumpeter and a gummy over 20kg.
Portland Fishing Charters has seen plenty of tuna and albacore action in recent days aboard their big vessel, “Southern Pride”.
