A few barrels were encountered but lost off Portland over the weekend, including one double hook-up with one pulling the hooks and the other going under the boat and breaking the line on it’s underside. ¬†Portland Fishing Charters had a¬†successful day on the “Southern Pride”, with 7 bluefin tuna and a nice surprise thresher shark which took an x-rap while trolling.thresher portland fishing charters

There were a few tuna caught at Port Fairy in 45-50m, a couple of boats reported getting theirs early before things went quiet.  Neville Dance and Neil Clarke on Intruder had a triple hook-up early on, 2 of which were tuna and one was a couta, all landed, and that was it for the day.

Kev McLoughlin is pictured below connected with a mako estimated at 150kg off Port Fairy in 55m, which unfortunately was a very angry fish and after it attacked the boat and berley cage and anything else in it’s way, broke the wire trace before doing its only jump – possibly for joy as it realised its freedom!kev hooked up

Geoff Verhoef caught this thumper gummy shark off Port Fairy today, it was 1.85m long and in excess of 22.5kg (Geoff’s scales topped out!)verhoef
