It’s a windy, rainy day on the southwest coast today, but there’s still plenty of options. I recently spoke to Trevor Holmes from Victorian Inland Charters. He has been fishing Toolondo Reservoir recently and has been finding it tough getting hook ups, but still seeing plenty of interest from the bigger fish. The shallow water and calm conditions have made it difficult, but persistence has payed off for his customers.
On the last trip out they dropped most likely a big rainbow and landed a 44 cm reddie. OSP bent minnows (76 mm) in wakasaki and ghost minnow have been the best colours.
The surf casting for Australian salmon has also been great they past few days with the small swell, good tides and strong northerly winds with plenty of fish to 2kg falling to metal slices cast from the shore from most of the southwest beaches on the high tide.
