Dan Mackrell reports that over the weekend recreational fishers assisted Fisheries Victoria in the ‘Search for Estuary Perch’ which was held at the Glenelg River, Nelson.  The event is organised annually to help collect broodstock for the propagation of fingerlings for stocking into Victorian lakes and rivers.

Despite the heavy rain forecast and flood warnings the team managed to catch enough fish for the hatchery’s needs and these were quickly shipped by aircraft to NSW at the end of the weekend. Some of the fish were excellent size including this specimen caught by Warrnambool angler Mark Gercovich, which measured 46cm fork length.
