Saturday off Warrnambool, Port Fairy and Portland there were a lot of tuna seen by boats fishing in as close as 15m depth, however they frustratingly proved very elusive, difficult to tempt in to taking a lure, jig, stickbait, livey, or anything else offered! There were a handful caught but most lucked out – reminiscent of what it was like late in the season last year. Yesterday Ashley Dance caught one on his afternoon trip. Trav and Darcy Graham got onto a few yesterday as well.
Andrew Westlake had a quick drift yesterday morning fishing gentleman’s hours in close near the Hopkins mouth and caught some nice pinkies on the Z-man soft plastics. There were a couple of thresher sharks hooked and lost off Warrnambool and Port Fairy on the weekend, giving exciting, albeit brief, displays!
