Trout season opening was productive for many last weekend with plenty of good quality brown trout falling to anglers fishing lures in the Hopkins and Merri Rivers. Mick Mahney and crew got some ripper fish on 7-9cm bibbed minnows up to 1.6kg before the rain started to fall on Sunday. It might be another week or two before things settle down locally after this week’s heavy rain, but either way there will be some spectacular fishing when the rivers begin to settle down.
