Andrew and crew had some fun on the light line classes today with Matthew Hunt Fishing Services, the big alby pictured caught on 4kg, also just missing a potential record on 3kg losing it with the leader in sight.10171791_624307114327146_4280445975346752751_n

A snap decision by Micheal, Jarrod and Reese to drive 6 hrs last night and book the Portland Fishing Charters boat to come tuna fishing today was definitely worthwhile. The boys landed 14 albacore up to 14kgs and 4 bluefin tuna, and had a great day.10157170_716595418383143_3281422644065170303_n 10169330_716595448383140_5612096748381409012_n 10294387_716595461716472_6431606787073849887_n

Thanks to Dale McLelland from victoriansaltwaterfishing.com for this “mixed bag” report from the South West over the past week:

“A weeks report from the Western District
I was lucky enough to venture down to Warrnambool For a bit over a week commencing good Friday with my family for a week of fishing with a plan to not only fish offshore but to investigate a few other possibilities.  I fished the Fitzroy river mouth the Hopkins and the Merri with Bream Perch and jewfish all falling to lures, plastics and bait although the Jewfish were small we did manage bream to 41 cm and perch to 44 cm.  I also found that you can have a ball just towing the kids up and down the ski area on the Hopkins and when it’s a bit blowy offshore for a fish this is a pleasant way to spend a lazy day (sneaking a fish in between ski sessions). Wednesday I managed to Hit the shelf with Corey Rutter and we got our bag of Bluefin to 19 kgs and released plenty more.  On Anzac day we experimented off Port Fairy in close and found several large patches of bait in 50 to 70 metres and worked these hard looking for bigger tuna for no joy but will be back to this area as soon as I can.
Special thanks to Steve Moore and Lisa Mordaunt and all at Warrnambool Holiday Park for their hospitality and I cannot recommend this place highly enough, Nothing is too much trouble and boaters are actually catered for.”1797350_610878715670518_4078870301279255115_n 1979699_610878735670516_7266207019080016327_n 10174936_610878782337178_5750368319287527517_n 10176062_610878685670521_6575557787025226163_n 10256629_610878799003843_5710782152510916605_o

Portland around the Horseshoe continues to fire as well.  Steve Atto took a couple of guys Alex and Jake out to catch their first tuna each – fishing off Port Fairy they caught plenty on spin gear and had a great time, with plenty of multiple hookups.  The one pictured took a Jaks Baby Zeus lure.10013480_10200981649542860_379076730879703324_o 10269037_10200981890388881_5243219516116202391_o
