Not much local fishing going on at the moment, but looking at our website’s all-in-one weather page, we will hopefully see a few fishable days in the near future. There should still be some life left in the tuna season, as they have still been well spread. Two years ago they were still being caught locally in good numbers well into August. Last winter and into spring we also saw an amazing run of gummy sharks being caught, so while the good weather is limited, when it does come there are certainly options available. Surf fishing is going well at the moment, with plenty of decent salmon being caught off the beaches right along the coastline. We are also seeing some really nice trout being caught in our fresh waterways.
Warrnambool local Phil McCosh sent this photo in, remarking that he went all the way to Cooktown and still couldn’t land a whole fish, getting a stark reminder that big Spanish Mackerel find small ones a tasty morsel! Least the weather looks a bit nicer up there!
