Boat Charters Warrnambool reported yesterday that “With conditions looking good for Monday we headed out to the shelf fishing overnight, with plenty of gemfish, blue eye and blue grenadier in the 350-400 metre mark later in the day we drifted through to 450 metres were we raised 5 mako sharks, boating 3 the best nudging 80kg. With bait everywhere there was no surprise that there was tuna about, and not long after we boated this fish just over 60kg which wrapped up a great day out on the water.”

Antony Ljubic and Leigh Anderson last night lost 3 threshers, at least 2 of which were different fish.  One was on the light outfit and was always going to end in tears, the second was on a wire trace and hooked up for half an hour before tangling in kelp and busting the line, the third one they brought boatside after a lengthy battle, with only the small fixed gaff on hand  in and getting a tail rope ready it had one more burst of life and straightened the gaff, broke the line and won its freedom!  They did however also get themselves a nice feed of whiting and pinkies.IMG_0065
