Jackson Wilson and Mark Evans yesterday caught a couple of tuna on the cast in 40m off Port Fairy where there were thousands of them active on the surface late in the day, very finicky but there were a few caught. Tim Goodall’s boat managed a few as well, as did others, while some (like us!) had to be content with watching them, even several times having them follow the lure right up to the boat only to turn the other way! Earlier on we got a few sweep first up in the morning, then along with Jacko headed out to about 80-100 metres depth, both boats berleying and bottom fishing for basically nothing – and putting up with pretty ordinary conditions compared to in close!
Considering the weather, there have been quite a few nice fish caught in the Shipwreck Coast Fishing Classic, including plenty submitting their photos for the catch and release categories. Pictured is the leaderboard after day 2, and a few examples of the brag mat photos. Entries are open all week, fishing concludes Saturday 14th at the 7pm weigh-in, with the presentations on Sunday at 11am, including the boat draw that all $25/30 entrants are in the running for. Even if you don’t catch a fish, it has to be one of the best value raffle tickets around!
