Handing over a brand new boat to a lucky owner is why we love our work; and it's even better to see it out on the water, receiving the love and use it deserves! We’ve just finished up a tidy Stabicraft 1850 Supercab build for a customer who wasted no time putting it to use — the boat headed straight off on a family surfing trip as soon as it left the yard. Here’s a run-down of the setup and what went into it!

The hull sits on our favourite custom Easytow tandem trailer with full skids. This makes drive-on/off launching simple and keeps the hull well supported on long hauls, which suited the customer’s plans for plenty of travel. We added Boat Buckles for quick tie-downs and a Boat Catch for easier solo launching and retrieving. Small things that make a big difference at busy ramps.

Power comes from a Suzuki DF140BTX. It’s a great match for the 1850 — smooth, fuel-efficient thanks to Lean Burn technology, and with plenty of grunt in reserve when loaded up for a trip. These engines are super reliable and we wouldn't choose anything else!

Electronics are handled by a Garmin Echomap Ultra 105SV paired with a GT56 transducer. It's a simple yet effective setup. The 10-inch screen gives ultra clear readings, and with side and down scanning it makes both fishing and navigating new areas straightforward thanks to pre-loaded Navionics charts.

To make the cabin more comfortable for the family, we fitted custom V-berth cushions and bunk extensions, along with rear cabin curtains. These little upgrades turn the space into a proper retreat — handy on overnight trips or for giving the kids a break between surfs.

A GME GX750 VHF was installed for reliable offshore comms, a Fusion RA60 stereo for tunes on the run, and a dash-mounted Ritchie compass as a good old-fashioned backup. The boat went out with a full offshore safety package including flares and an EPIRB, so it’s ready and safe for longer runs with the family aboard.

Stage 3 grey paint gives the boat a clean, modern look. Deck lighting was fitted to brighten things up for early starts or late pack-downs. Fishing options from factory included a plumbed live bait tank and U-Dek flooring for comfort and easy cleaning. A portside transom walkthrough door makes boarding and handling gear that much simpler.

With the fitout complete, this 1850 Supercab was quickly put through its paces on a family surfing mission. The customer wanted something capable of carrying the crew, their boards, and all the gear safely and comfortably — and that’s exactly what this rig delivered!
