This is what happens when the crew at Richardson Marine builds their dream Stabicraft! This 2350 Supercab was fitted out with the lot — a full suite of Stabicraft, Garmin, Minn Kota and Furuno gear. Just days after the final bolt was tightened, the boat hit the road for a 4,000km journey to Portland Roads in remote Cape York (down some seriously rough tracks!) before spending three weeks in paradise — chasing reef fish and barra by day and mooring on the beach by night. What a way to break it in!
Each year we put together a fully equipped demo Stabi to test the latest and greatest in marine electronics, and with the release of the 2350 Supercab last year, it was the perfect hull for the job. Starting with the factory options, we added Stage 2 paint in a custom green, a rear wall, EVA flooring, foam-filled pontoons, port storage/sleeper box, and a starboard sleeper box with fridge, oven and drawer. Other upgrades include trim tabs, painted rails, coaming dive door, drum winch, Narva LED light bar and more. Already well-specced in the Sportfish configuration, this rig also boasts a massive 400L underfloor fuel tank.
Powering the beast are twin 175hp Suzuki fly-by-wire outboards with Precision Control rigging, paired with Dometic EPS electronic steering — a game-changer on a boat this size. The steering is incredibly smooth and responsive, with options for joystick control, additional stations or full autopilot integration. Both motors sit on SeaStar Xtreme 4" setback jacking plates for precise height adjustment and ultimate control in any sea or travel conditions, complemented perfectly by the factory trim tabs and Furuno-linked autopilot.
Electronics are next-level. A Garmin Panoptix PS70 live sonar transducer delivers live readings to 300m deep, displayed on a GPSMap 1553xsv at the dash, with performance boosted by a GSD28 sonar module and Navionics Vision+ mapping. For serious deep-water work, an Airmar TM265LH pairs beautifully with a Furuno TZT 16" unit running TZ Maps — a dream setup for offshore fishing.
Up front, there’s the powerhouse Minn Kota Riptide Instinct Quest (87"), powered by a BLA 36V 100Ah lithium battery and connected via a waterproof Minn Kota plug. Ed was blown away by its performance and reliability while fishing daily up north — and the self-deploying feature makes it perfect for a cabin boat, especially in croc country or heavy seas. These brushless motors are incredibly efficient compared to older generations and you'll get a whole lot more run time from a single battery.
Inside the cabin, we’ve added a few comforts for tropical trips — dual 12V fans to keep things cool, a Scanstrut phone charger on the dash, a Garmin VHF 215i radio with GPS and sounder integration, and a Ritchie compass. Keeping safe, contactable and in touch on those big remote trips is non-negotiable; you're hours away from any mobile coverage, so a range of emergency and non-emergency communications is essential.
All of this rides on an Easytow custom alloy trailer built specifically for the 2350. Ed put it through its paces on some brutal Cape York tracks (some he reckons maybe he shouldn’t have attempted), but it held up brilliantly — a real testament to Easytow’s Australian-made strength and design. It’s why we fit and recommend Easytow trailers on all our boats.
We can’t wait to share some of the footage of this incredible rig in action up north — because as much fun as it is building these dream boats, putting them to work on big fish is even better.
