The south-easterly wind blew much harder than expected all day yesterday, and a lot of the boats did it pretty tough. Cameron Ordner and Chuck, however, had a ripper day at Port Fairy with this selection from the deep, along with releasing another mako of about 85kg.
We ventured over to Port MacDonnell, and had a very slow day deep sea bottom fishing, with one blue eye, blue grenadier, and a couple of ocean perch. Saw birds working a couple of times, but only saw dolphins. Of a couple of other boats at Port MacDonnell that spent fair portions of the day trolling, there was one tuna caught that we are aware of – a nice one caught by Shane Cromie and Andrew Buck.
Matt Burgess and Butch Cassidy caught 11 pinkies off Warrnambool in only a few hours yesterday morning. Kev McLoughlin and crew caught 4 big tiger flathead up to 2kg and arrow squid off Port Fairy, but didn’t raise a mako which was their main target.
