Marc Ainsworth fished Lake Bullen Merri at Camperdown last weekend for a mixed catch of Chinook salmon and brown trout. The fish were all caught trolling Tassie Devils with the brown and yellow winged pattern proving to be a standout. The Chinook salmon ranged in size form 300-700g and the brown trout was the catch of the day at just under 1.4kg. We should start to see some more nice browns coming out of the lake over the next few weeks. A few nice rainbows have been caught on the north shore and the lake over the past 2 weeks and this water is due to be stocked with more yearling Chinook salmon in the coming weeks.
Even though the water is only 13 degrees Celsius on the southwest coast at the moment those keen enough to get out for a dive have been rewarded. Aaron Mitchell braved the cool conditions and surge down the coast recently for a nice bag of male rock lobster and sweep. The lobster weighed in at 1.6 & 2.0 kilograms. While the taking of female rock lobster is prohibited at present if you can brave the cold you can still take male rock lobster until the closure begins on the 15 September.
