Another fine day today to round out a great weekend on the southwest coast. Again tuna were caught out in 60m of water off Warrnambool and Port Fairy although some anglers found them a little flighty. Marty and Xavier Ellul made the most of the fine weather today and took their boat for a spin down the coast from Warrnambool and caught a nice tasty bag of gummy sharks, snapper and big cuttlefish.
Jubby from Richardson Marine headed down to the Hopkins River estuary and caught plenty of bream and kept a couple for a feed with these two going 36cm and 43cm. There’s still plenty of fish in the lower reaches and some blue water pushing in on the high tides which has sent the fish a little crazy.
John Clements landed a cracking brown trout at Lake Purrumbete over the weekend weighing in well over 4kg taken on a Rapala xrap 06 while trolling. What a whopper! There was also another 3.6kg brown trout and solid Chinook salmon caught today, which is great news. I haven’t heard much from Lake Bullen Merri this weekend other than small new release Chinook salmon being caught and a few nice rainbows to 1.5kg from the north shore.
I headed out for a surf fish this afternoon on the top of the high tide and caught a few salmon casting lures off the beach at Yambuk.
