Dan from Salty Dog Fishing Charters caught some good bags of school tuna this week off Port Fairy. The water depth between 55-75m has been consistent with fish spread out amongst the krill. Look for the birds and don’t expect to see fish jumping. Diving lures such as Rapala xrap 20’s and Samaki 140’s and small skirts have accounted for most of the fish. The fish are averaging 6-10kg.
Dylan Pace from the Tackle Shack has been catching some nice brown trout to 2.5kg. Early and late in the day has been the best time with the Merri River producing most of the large fish.
Plenty of fish have come out of the crater lakes this week including Chinook salmon, brown and rainbow trout. Fish to 4kg plus have been caught each day out of Lake Purrumbete just like this solid brown trout by Darren which weighed 4.9kg!
