The Tuna reports remain a little scattered with fish spread out over the region. The best rec reports have been coming in from both Portland and Port Mac. Dan from Salty Dog Charters in Port Fairy has been finding plenty of school Tuna either side of 10kg of late. If you have been thinking about booking a charter, now is a great time with the numbers of school fish about!
With Wintery conditions well and truly setting in, the hard fighting Silver Trevally have become a common catch and great target! Fishing around any of the local bays or Harbours is a great way to find these fish. As a bonus, they are easily accessible to landbased fisho’s. Plastics such as Gulp Turtleback Worms and Zman Grubs are ideal for anyone keen to throw lures, while cut baits such as pilchard fillets in combination with a little burley is another deadly tactic.
The recent Northerly winds have been ideal for Salmon spinning off the beaches. Plenty of fish either side of 1.5kg are around for anyone throwing metals in the 30-60g range.
